Teaching material

In the process of developing teaching materials we found some fun videos online. Herewith a summary of the links to these clips and some examples of how they were applied in the teaching process.

How to make the mini metal foundry‘ was the inspiration for a 1st year practical at NTNU introducing students to the joy of pyrometallurgy. The photos below was taken by Joalet Steenkamp in August 2017 and are of real 1st year students and their tutors ;). First the students had to build their furnace-in-a-bucket, then they rammed their sand former by hand. A hair-dryer was used to burn the charcoal that supplied heat to melt the aluminium-silicon alloy. The final product was a set of chess pieces owned by the proud group of students who made them!
